Introduction to Computer Science


Course description: An introduction to problem solving and algorithm development using a high-level block structured language. Concepts including hardware components, data types and structures will be introduced.

Prerequisites: Math 170, or permission of department head.

Text: Visual C# 2005 How to Program, 2nd edition, by (Harvey & Paul) Deitel & Associates, Prentice Hall, 2006.

The instructor reserves the right to change the order and time spent on any portion of this syllabus. Other material will be covered as time permits.

The Semester score for the course will be calculated by using the weights (%) indicated below:

The Semester letter grade in the course will be assigned according to the scale below:

Notes:

  1. If a student has an average of less than 60 on program assignments, then a semester mark of F will be assigned in this course.
  2. In cases of an excused absence, the instructor reserves the right to reweight the final exam in lieu of a make-up test.
  3. In the case where a student's score on his final exam indicates exceptional achievement above and beyond that indicated by the semester average, the instructor reserves the right to reweight the value of the final exam in computing the semester grade.
