Introduction to Software Packages I


Course description: Survey and usage of software packages such as spreadsheets, data bases, and statistical applications for mini and microcomputers. This course has been identified as a general education course.

Prerequisites: Math 113 and Math 170, or permission of department head.

Multiple worksheets and workbooks ~ 1.5 weeks
Advanced functions, conditional formatting, ~ 1.5 weeks
and filtering
Developing an Excel application ~ 1.5 weeks
Financial analysis ~ 1.5 weeks
What-if analysis ~ 1.5 weeks
Exams ~ 1 week

Other topics as time permits.

Assessment

The Semester score for the course will be calculated by using the weights (%) indicated below:

Notes:

  1. In cases of an excused absence, the instructor reserves the right to reweight the final exam in lieu of a make-up test.
  2. In the case where a student's score on his final exam indicates exceptional achievement above and beyond that indicated by the semester average, the instructor reserves the right to reweight the value of the final exam in computing the semester grade.
